About Me

Designer Turned Developer

I began my career in 2005 creating "Multimedia CD-ROM"s for companies like Paradise Island, Bahamas. It was a great time to witness website design in it's early stages and I knew I wanted to be part of what was happening.

From there I worked at Marriot and The Ritz-Carlton doing website design where the abundance of great photography and simplistic design helped shape the aesthetic I use in my site designs today. I was given the opportunity to design a public-facing website for a Ritz-Carlton property, and when it launched it gave me a sense of pride and accomplishment that I still remember.

I then enjoyed a few interesting positions at startups. An international organic floral importing company, a popular CDN company, and many wonderful clients as a freelancer or consultant. But the crown jewel of my career is my current position as Senior Front-End Developer at Universal Studios. It feels great to work for a company that despite it's size, truly cares for it's employees. I've worked with amazingly skilled developers and designers here who have given me great assistance in my own career and continue to help me push forward.

About 8 years ago I decided to make the switch completely from designer to UI Engineer / Front-End Developer, trading in my Pantone Plus Series Extended Gamut Guide to program full time. I didn't know that while designing felt natural, that my brain would truly feel satisfied in the world of web programming. The current development frameworks of today integrate UI into their code in ways that sometimes feel unnatural for programmers who have never been designers, so it's a great time for me to provide value to teams I am on based on those many years of experience weaving data into functional cohesive and modular visual layouts.

When I'm not coding, I'm usually spending time with my wonderful wife and two kids, my pug, guinea pigs or doting over the fish in my two planted aquariums. With all the time at home because of the Coronavirus pandemic I decided to take the leap and finally buy a nice electronic drum set. It has been a great hobby to jump into because it's aerobic, it's inside, and doesn't involve a computer screen!
